The rhino population here is healthy and growing, although the exact number is a closely guarded secret.  Black rhinos are the smaller of the two African rhino species. The most notable difference between white and black rhinos are their hooked upper lip & are extremely territorial: the first photo in this series showing a black rhino preparing to charge our jeep.

Setup in 1979, Mkhaya Game Reserve in south-east Eswatini (Swaziland) is privately owned and funded, representing a wildlife conservation movement on a national scale, largely pioneered by Ted Reilly, the farmer son of a British horse soldier in the Anglo-Boer War with the support of King Mswati III.
